We came for our 12 week scan on Friday. As any pregnant woman that has been through the NHS system will understand, this can be quite an emotional and much anticipated time as up to this point there is no professional confirmation of your pregnancy and you're anxious to know everything is as it should be. We were shown into the ultrasound room by the sonographer with very little instruction of what to do, where to sit and what was going to happen during the scan. We're first time parents so a little guidance would have been nice - not the end of the world but it made us a little uncomfortable. The sonographer asked me to sit on the couch and got me ready to do the scan. Again, no dialogue at all - just went straight onto my belly with the probe. We immediately heard the heartbeat which naturally made us both really excited - almost at the same time she abruptly took the probe off and shouted at me to not move. Subsequently, my husband asked her a few questions regarding what we were seeing on the screen to which she completely ignored. We understand she had a job to do and that the 12 week scan is mostly about getting the measurements and figures down into our notes and making sure everything is OK. But this sonographer was particularly rude, almost like she was deliberately trying to make it a bad experience - and I realise how silly this sounds as why would anyone want to do that? We had our reservations about writing a review as we don't normally do this sort of thing - and the sonographer technically did her job; taking measurements etc. But her bedside manner left a lot to be desired and totally ruined the experience of seeing our baby for the first time - so if this review can do anything to help fix her attitude with future patients, then it'll have been worth posting. We would also like to be contacted by the hospital so we can make sure we don't have her for any future scans.
With all this said the staff I saw later to get my bloodwork were very helpful and sweet. So I really do think this is just a problem with this sonographer.
