After many years of using this hospital for various reasons including treatment for chronic illness, having children here and also having to say goodbye to family members at Heartlands.
I recently had surgery at heartlands and can honestly say the care I received was fantastic with the exception of staff stretched to the limit on ward 12.
The surgical team did everything possible to ensure a good recovery.
Nearly five hours I waited for discharge( thankfully this was on the ward and knowing from previous inpatient stays, knew it would be a long wait) and still went home without my medication (collected the next day).
Since leaving hospital there seems to be an issue with getting the post op appointment that I'm supposed to have. Fortunately the medical gastro /IBD team that look after me, are their usual brilliant selves and have seen me in clinic and also arranged for further investigation due to problems after surgery.
The hospital obviously have the same problems as any other hospitals in the NHS, including needs more funding for updating the buildings and more staff.
I could never fault the general care I have received taking into account the problems the NHS have.
