"The doctor @ A&E was rude & Mean"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital / Accident and emergency

I had a toe injury two week back, i had the bruise on half of my feet & was very painful. I was out of country on an official trip & as soon as i come back the swelling & pain was still there. i wanted to make sure that i have not broken something so I went to the urgent care, there i was advised by the receptionist that they wont be able to take the x-ray. I was seen by the nurse & referred to the A&E department. At the A&E i was seen by the nurse initially & was asked to wait for some more time. I was then called by the doctor. He was very rude & mean to me, he started taking the frustration at me as I was referred by the urgent care people to A&E for no reason. he said A&E is more for the life threatening people, which i understand that was the reason why i went to urgent care in the first place. he also said that i am not going to die by the 10 day old injury if that would have happened i would have died by now. I have asked him to speak to the internal team & make a complaint if he have any issues, then he went saying i don't have time for this. I told him that i understand the concept of A&E i wouldn't have to waste so much time if the urgent care have looked at the injury & then he started taking go at me that i am complaining about the time as there are children & other serious issues they have to deal with & they can't give me priority. He said the urgent care have the access to the x ray room why can't they send me there directly why they have to send me to the A&E. I said i was told by the receptionist that they can't take x-ray. There is no reason for that doctor to be so mean & rude to me. His tone was high, How am i suppose to know there internal procedure or to question or answer any of this frustration. Being a patient i would expect to be treated with respect irrespective of the severity of the case.

There was also instant that people came limping was seen by the other doctor before me even tough they came 2 hrs later than me & they had the x ray done immediately. i understand the priority but a leg injury is a leg injury nothing life threatening.

Over all wait time was 5 hrs & in the end the way doctor spoke to me was unacceptable.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on the care your received recently in our A&E Department. We are sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with one of our members of staff. We will ensure that the feedback is shared directly with the department.

If you wish to speak to someone to discuss this further we would be very happy to do so. You can call the PALS team on 01908 995954 or if you prefer you can email me, the Trust Patient Experience Manager on michaela.tait@mkuh.nhs.uk and we can arrange a good time for you to talk to me.

We do appreciate all feedback, it is by listening to our patients we can improve our services. Thank you for the time and effort taken to do so.
