I was so apprehensive my GP whom he, and his family, had been attending me, and my family, for nearly 100 years, yes one hundred years! was leaving. My parents and grandparents had been on the Barrett List all that time.
Who would replace him? Would I need to change practice if I didn't like the new GP? I am older, I don't like change and I have lots of medical problems so who I have 'covering my back' is important.Although thinking about it everyone needs the same things from a GP trust, empathy, medical knowledge and kindness. I also needed a GP with a good moral compass.Well, the day dawned and I met Dr. Canning. He is young, he is enthusiastic and I was amazed to find I felt at ease with him. I think the main reason for this is because he LISTENS, he doesn't rush you, he doesn't tell you about the 'ten-minute appointment system'. No, he listens and I felt safe in his hands and since that day we have built up a relationship. I trust him, he is well up to speed with regard to new drugs, he prescribed a new painkiller which made such a difference I could have wept.I think his whole approach is based on respect, kindness and us making informed judgments together. He has, I feel, always my best interest in mind. I love his enthusiasm and that he aims to get me for the 'best' treatments available, and I know he will he fight my corner, I am Blessed.Dr. Canning for God's sake don't leave the Practice, I don't think I could go through this again lol.
