"Knee cramps after tkr"

About: Leighton Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I am now in my 157th night after total knee replacement surgery being woken for the third time in three hours by muscle cramps. I get them every 1-2 hours all night. I have to get up and walk around until they stop.

Health professionals just shrug their shoulders and say they will go away but I am exhausted through lack of sleep. I am having extra salt, and water, now trying magnesium all to no avail. I cannot have quinine because it will interact with the amitriptyline I am taking to cope with the sciatica also resulting from the operation.
