"Hearing aid Batteries"

About: Field Road Surgery

Hospital tells me that I should be given 2 packs of batteries per hearing aid!

Field road see the need to make me have to make as many trips to collect them as they see fit! "We only give 2 packs out max at a time" I was told by there "snotty" receptionist, who has no idea that in order to get the batteries you have to take time off work to go fetch them and to have to do this twice per month is a disgrace when after being told by the NHS that I should have 4 packs as I have 2 hearing aids! "We don't have the same amount as the hospital" was their only defence!

They did state I could collect another 2 packs when I needed them though with no time limit on going back to get them........So why not give them to me there and then.

Surely if you do not keep a "Properly" maintained stock of these, you should be sorting out your stocking policy and not turning away people because you can!

Again let down by the reception at Field road practice!

I felt discriminated against because I have 2 hearing aids and not 1!

Firstly I would like to apologise in the delay in responding to your comments, the practice had not been alerted to this comment being made. I would also like to advise that the practice manager is available Monday to Thursday to discuss any issues or concerns you may have and the practice maintains a complaints procedure in line with NHS England's Complaints Policy.

In regards to the issue of obtaining your hearing aid batteries, firstly, in regards to quantity, we are only able to supply the number of batteries as stated by Walsall Manor Hospital Audiology Department, as they are the provider of the batteries. Should you have any concerns about quantities we as a practice are able to issue, this should be addressed directly with them. In regards to having to take time out from work, the batteries can be obtained at any time whilst the surgery is open either by yourself or a family member/friend. We do ask that old batteries are returned and your book is bought in at the time of obtaining batteries, however this is not a requirement to obtain batteries. If the practice reception is closed then batteries can also be obtained at the main reception desk or directly via the Manor Hospital Audiology department.

I do feel that had this issue been bought to the manager's attention at the time then a reasonable compromise could have been made and can assure you that practice staff do not discriminate against any patients for any particular reason, however should you feel that this is the case then we ask that you bring it to the immediate attention of the practice manager so that matters can be dealt with appropriately.

R Shanaz
