I would just like to pass on my compliments to the wonderful Neurosurgery team at Salford Royal. From the minute I was stretchered in, to the moment I walked out, I felt truly comfortable in the care of all of the team.
I started on ward B8, which although busy was a kind and warm ward. Thanks to Claire, Megan and Lizzy for your care in what was probably the most difficult week of my life. I would like to take the time to mention a shining star of B8 which is Cindy (I hope I have got this right!) the domestic. What a truly wonderful person. When I was upset following some bad news, Cindy took me in to the day room, made me a brew and let me spill my heart out to her. She gave me kind words in my time of need, despite this probably not being in her job description!! She is a credit to your support staff, and a great example of how it’s not just the doctors and nurses that can make a difference.
Following my operation, (VP shunt and bifrontal craniotomy to repair a CSF leak)
I was cared for by H7, in a monitored bed. I must give Susamma a special mention as she looked after me for 3 nights and was so caring and kind especially when I was recovering from my GA. Thanks also to Fred who caught me when I fainted!A huge thank you to the neurosurgical team who discussed and debated my case. Initially Mr Holland, who made me feel at ease being admitted and well informed, discussing all the care plans with me. Also Fraser who I met a few times, a friendly and approachable doctor who made me laugh... and there’s not much laughing to be doing when you’re waiting for neurosurgery! He also took on board my concerns with a graft from my thigh on the morning of my operation and gave me a bit of autonomy in the decision making which was greatly appreciated. Thanks also for a swift discharge.
I eventually made my way in to the expert hands of Mr Pathmanaban who’s care was exceptional from start to finish. I felt that he encompassed all your trust values, especially ‘personal’. I was so impressed by the way that he took on board my views and listened to my concerns, and most importantly let me keep my hair!! It might have seemed a minute detail in all that was going on but it really mattered to me. Many thanks for this as I’m sure it made your job more difficult! I felt exceptionally safe in his care and cannot speak highly enough of how wonderfully compassionate and understanding he was. Recently, I have met Mr Pathmanaban in outpatients and again it was a good experience. I feel very thankful to remain under his care.
My experience made me ever grateful for the amazing service that the NHS provides and you can really tell why SRFT is rated outstanding! I would recommend this service to anyone...A cut above the rest. A million thank you’s!
