After being a passenger in a road traffic accident about 4 years ago where I suffered brain and spinal injuries and other various breakages and a nice 6 month stay in hospital I wondered what life would have in store next. So after all the help and support of my brilliant wife and two young sons and some amazing friends I started on the road to some kind of recovery. When I left hospital I was still very shaky and very nervous and continued my physio at The Douglas Grant in Irvine where I began to get a bit of confidence back and a bit of strength, but there was still a big hole in my life after being retired at the age of 40. Then through my case manager she suggested the Dirrans centre where people with various and similar injuries go and meet up and learn some of the skills of every day living but not only that make some new friends, so I decided to give it a go. Well being apprehensive I wasn’t expecting much, but from the moment I walked through the front door I couldn’t believe how friendly and welcoming everyone was and the staff are so helpful and never too busy if you need any of them. So for now I look forward to every Thursday where I really enjoy myself and have a great time. I can’t recommend The Dirrans centre highly enough and hope to meet more people and learn new and some skills that I once took for granted better, as the staff give you the confidence that you might feel that you no longer have but don’t take long to get at least some back, so thank you all you amazing staff and I will be attending for the foreseeable future.
