My wife suffers from urinary retention quite frequently. Now, as would any person, she absolutely despises having to either have a catheter inserted or having to self-catheterise, She was admitted back in August/September with retention and was inserted 3 week catheter. Now, 3 weeks was up and there wasn't any follow-up from Urology except a specialist nurse appointment which would be a total of 7 weeks later. There was no proper training of self-catheterising and is quite appalling this there is no follow-up after and is just left.
She often has to attend A+E or GP to have bladder drained. She often suffers with UTI's on occasions which can put into retention. After numerous occasions like this, i feel that a urological decision should be met on what the next stages are to be rather than just putting a catheter inserted for a couple of weeks as this just puts back to square 1 which isn't fair on her being that she suffers from poor mental health also which doesn't help.
