It's often said you don't appreciate the NHS until you need it and I found this to be true in
February this year when I was in ward 103 and at 6am I had a heart attack but the ultra fast reaction of the nursing staff especially Andrea saved my life. They were as focused and professional at the end of a long shift as they were at the start of it. There can't be many more jobs that require this level of commitment and quick reaction.
I had 24 hours in intensive care being looked after by a group of people I can only describe as superhuman. My nurses Penny, Robert and Carla and the doctors and other staff were amazing. I then spent time in wards 114 and 103 and would like to mention some of the staff who cared for me as if I was one of their own family. I can't think of higher praise.
Colin, Andrea and Lauren, Samantha and Ashleigh, David and Irene and all the enthusiastic student nurses, Dr Dweck and Dr Japp, and the pharmacists and Rose, Paul, Georgie, Lorna and Stevie from clinical support.
A few days ago I had a pacemaker fitted and spent a few nights in cardiology
Once again I was welcomed like an old friend by the reassuringly calm Sara Ross and Chrisanna . How they manage it in such a stressful environment is a mystery to me
Thanks and appreciation to Gillian, Roisin, Jaquline, David, Samantha, Ashleigh, Inez and Hannah.
Dr Dweck, Dr Omar, Dr Lang, Dr Saskia, Dr Will and the Pacing team
All the domestics and Georgie, Rose, Lorna, Stevie and Paul of clinical support.
Denise the heart failure nurse.
So,to all the politicians, please listen to the medical staff and give them what they need to continue their amazing work. All the credit should go to them and not you.
God forbid that you or your loved ones need to use the NHS but it is only then that you realise the many miracles they have to perform day in day out.
God bless them all.
