"A&E, Medocc and Lister Ward"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Arrived in A&E at 11am on 17/12/18 following advice from 111 service to go to A&E within an hour. Waited 50 mins or so for triage and was told "I was bordering SEPSIS". Obs of 39.2° (temp) pulse of 131 and blood pressure 208/190. Sats of 92%. I was sent straight to Medocc where I had to wait until 18:30 to be seen and by then, feeling EXTREMELY unwell and my symptoms getting worse!!

A nurse in Medocc told me to take my paperwork back to A&E and wait for the Medics. I was then told to make my OWN WAY up to Lister Ward for further assessment despite saying how much my head hurt, feeling dizzy and feeling like I was going to pass out!! I got to Lister Ward at 19:15, where I was made to wait in a stuffy little room on hard plastic chairs until 04:30 to finally see a doctor. Totally NOT acceptable for a patient with suspected SEPSIS

Thank you for your feedback which we will share with the Emergency Department and Lister ward Matron, along with Medway Community Healthcare, who manage the MedOCC service.

Understandably when you felt so unwell and had to endure a long wait to be seen you are dissatisfied and we can only apologise for your poor experience of the services.

If you would like to speak to a matron from the Emergency Department please contact our PALS Team (patient advice and liaison service) and they will be happy to facilitate this. The PALS team can be contacted on medwayft.pals@nhs.net or 01634 825004

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
