A close relative was in ward 20 for ten days, during which time other patients persisted to smoke. The unit smelled of smoke and the bedroom area even more so. This exacerbated the patients condition.
Hourly obs were rarely completed hourly, less so overnight.
There was little therapeutic benefit to the admission with many staff being poorly engaged with the patients. Sadly at times the staff seemed to lack understanding that highly educated people were being cared for and persisted to talk as though all patients had a poor understanding or a cognitive deficit.
