In 2017 my mum was diagnosed with Dementia (vascular), and I became her carer the first 18 months were not too bad ,then in May she had a mini stroke which kept her in hospital for a week. She was discharged from then on every thing went down hill fairly quick, so I asked for help from my local council Homecare, at first she was ok she needed personal care twice a week which was fine, also she had the same carers.
Then in August I asked care to be increased to 5 days a week as things got worse, but the carers started to change every other day and she now refuses personal care from everyone except me, her daughter which now after 4 months of doing this and looking after 2 houses I have had go down the road of trying to get her into some sort of care. We have had discussions with Homecare about the difficulties of mum's refusal of help relating to her personal care for a few months and had came to an agreement that they would try to keep the same carers coming in every day but it has not worked and are basically it's a case of whoever is available on the day, which is a waste of time and money. I didn't think I this day would come, my brothers and I can no longer cope with the Dementia and mum's other health conditions. We love our mum but Dementia has taken her from us. I hate this Disease.
I have now asked for the Social Work to be involved, as I am finding it very difficult to continue to be her carer, I don't do this because I don't care or don't love my mum it's because I do!
