Dear All,

I have recently been in contact with your services on behalf of my friend, who is resident in Leeds.

The first contact I made was a little difficult, obviously with the professionals concerned unable to discuss my friend's condition with me due to data protection. This was handled intelligently and sympathetically.

After further calls, and discussion with my friend, services immediately swung into action - hence preventing my good friend from injuring or killing herself.

I would like to commend Jan and Helen at the Becklin Centre for their sympathetic responses and timely action which has prevented further damage to my best friend.

Thank you very much for your comments – it is really good for us to hear feedback like this and be able to pass it on to the professionals involved.

I am Guy Brookes, Associate Medical Director for Adult Mental Health Services in Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We aim to provide the most helpful and responsive services and so direct feedback of this kind – whether around things that we do well or things that we could do better – is invaluable to us.

The potential for difficulties in sharing information with friends and families is a very real one for us and, as you point out, this can at times be limited by a duty to uphold confidentiality. I am particularly pleased to hear that this was handled sensitively and intelligently to a constructive conclusion for both you and your friend.

I have passed on your comments to the team who, I am sure, will be delighted to hear of this outcome.
