Recently a member of my family was a patient in here. He was put in a side room on ward 6, due to developing confusion after his surgery and was shouting out loud.
On many visits we went, the door to his room was kept closed and the curtains closed so how could the nurses keep an eye on him? He rarely had his buzzer, it was mostly on the wall and when he did have it the staff put it to the side he cannot move due to having a stroke, so could not use it! He had a falls alarm which was supposed to be attached to him and it wasn't on many visits - he had a fall whilst under their care so did he have it attached then? Could the staff even see him? The bedrails were up which I really believe posed more of a danger to him as I have photographic evidence of the position he got himself into whilst unsupervised. On many occasions when our family was visiting for 3-4 hours, we would not see any member of staff come into his room, only the cleaners. We got the impression they couldn't be bothered with him. I am very disappointed with the care that my relative received. I have to point out that not all staff were like this, some were fantastic in the care they gave, however the bad outweighs the good in this situation.
"Disappointed with care of my relative"
