"Having a Colonoscopy."

About: Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Yesterday I had a colonoscopy at the Endoscopy day intervention unit Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy.

The staff in this unit are excellent, treating me with dignity, compassion and humour.

I'm almost 70 and find sometimes people can be patronising but certainly not in this unit.  I have been having colonoscopies for around 20 years now because I have Ulcerative Colitis and this was the easiest one ever, the specialist nurse Adele who did it was gentle and explained everything very clearly.

The only negative  thing I can say is I wish someone would invent a better preparation as the stuff you have to drink the day before is vile! This has certainly not improved in 20 years but is nothing to do with the staff.

Thank you to all the staff in this unit for their kindness.

Dear Granny

Thank you for posting your comments on Care Opinion following your recent Colonoscopy.

It is lovely to read that you were treated so well; a standard that we aim to achieve for all patients coming in for a procedure. I will be sure and pass on your comments to Adele and the nursing team.

I can sympathize with you regarding the bowel preparation! Unfortunately although there are alternatives, this is the most effective.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Sandra
