"My sister and her disability"

About: East Coast Community Healthcare C.I.C

(as a relative),

I am my sisters carer. She has always been and will always be disabled.  She is doubly incontinent and also has an acute anxiety disorder.

I recently phoned to order a new delivery of her pads, to be told that her deliveries had been suspended and that she had been discharged from the continence team.

Totally shocked and unaware I asked why, to be told that she had moved out the service area. I explained that she hadn't moved anywhere, to which they replied that it as because her medical practice was not in their area. She has been with that practice for over 10 years, why suddenly is it not in their area?

So I asked what she is supposed to do about her pads  in the meantime as this is not something she can do without. The reply was that there was nothing they could do and I would have to go to the medical practice and get her referred to the continence team again.

I can't express just how much I am absolutely disgusted at this service. To reduce a disabled woman in her thirties to having a panic attack and taking away her basic human rights to receive the important care she needs is deplorable.  You should be utterly ashamed of yourselves that you have left her helpless, sent her anxiety through the roof, and she now can't leave the house for fear of having an accident. As if she didn't struggle enough already. She is a human being and I have a good mind to take this to the papers, I am so angry.

So, that's my story, and I hope you really read this and listen to the heartache and stress you have caused.

Dear Stirlik

We have been unable to find an instance on our records where a patient has been discharged from the care of the Continence team as they have moved out of the area or changed GP.

Without knowing the patient's identity we are unable to explain what has happened in this case.

Please would you contact East Coast Community Healthcare Patient Liaison Team on 01502 445447 so that we can address the issue.
