My husband was admitted to Crosshouse ED, the treatment he received was sub-standard to say the least, he and myself received what we felt judgemental and condescending treatment. Given that I have worked for the nhs for 20 years, I am disappointed to say that this experience was not a good one! I like to think I treat my patients with the utmost respect and dignity, unlike the treatment my husband received in this department.
I was disgusted at the judgemental attitude we received, my husband is an alcoholic, and I was asked what outcome did I expect from sending him to ED with a chronic problem..he collapsed at home, after 3 weeks of spurious diarrhoea, I told the doctor I wasn’t looking for an answer for the chronic problem, but that he collapsed and I was worried he had a cardiac event due to an electrolyte imbalance, to which the doctor said yes ok we will check his bloods, long story short, when asked if he wanted admitted, my husband replied “can I think about it for 5 minutes”
The doctor replied look we’re rammed, you don’t have 5 minutes, make your mind up.
This is totally unacceptable! As I said in the feedback. I’ve worked in the nhs for 20 years, and have never been as disrespectful as that doctor was to my husband and myself, attitudes need to change.
