Mental health support at Fairfield is non-existent. Various circumstances personal and professional led me to being suicidal where everything around me was becoming too overwhelming and I was in an increasingly confused state of mind. Safeguarding concerns raised by a close friend led to police coming over, doing an assessment and taking me into Fairfield A&E. The support from the attending PCO was simply amazing and very touching. The nightmare began after police dropped me at the A&E. In a fragile state of mind I was made to wait for 9 hours before a nurse from the RAID team came to see me and I was simply handed over a booklet on how to manage anxiety. When a person gets suicidal I think they do lose the perspective to think rationally. Living alone there is no one who can stop me from taking a step to end my life. How does one then implement anxiety management techniques in those moments? I was brought in to get support in one of those moments when I was at my weakest however I ended up leaving more drained after having been waiting through from 1:30am till 10:15am the following morning. I even mentioned that I hadn't been able to sleep for over 32 hours but was not given anything to aid with any of this. I pleaded with the receptionist over and over again to either be seen by someone or to be allowed back home but she kept on saying that if I did leave without being seen they would have to inform the police. My question is how did any of this help me?
