My disbled son came into the unit at 7.00am as agreed on the 8th July 2019.We were told that this would be enough time for the preperations for surgery before he went down the theatre. At 7.35 I asked reception what had happened to the reasonable ajustment for people like my son. We were then taken to a room 9. After about 15 minutes the nurse came back in and started the computer information.
The surgical team came in and we discussed what was going to happen. We were then left to wait for my son to go to surgery going down after 10.00am.
We did not know where our son was going from theatre as we had been told 2 different wards,
Only for a nurse from the theatre team we would not have been told anything.
My son went to the day ward who right from the time he arrived was cared for to a high standard.
Discharge we found out that the information that he was on blood thinners had not been passed on to the ward. The ward then had to find out if he could have the Enoxaparin injection that evening.
We had agreed a plan for my son but found that this plan did not happen.
The staff on the SEAL Unit were thin on the ground and the one who should have been caring for my son did not return again. It appeared that the other staff did not care about my son and the distress that was building up. Reasonable adjustment should have been seen to be happening as it did in 2015 when he came in to the SEAL Unit last time.
