"Royal Hallamshire Hospital - ENT Dept."

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a relative),

I had an operation (septorhinoplasty) to re-open the airway and straighten my nose after several breakages due to sports in my youth.

I found the whole process to be generally of a high standard and the Consultant, Mr Bateman, to be excellent.

On advising I now wanted to deal with the problem, the referral through by my GP was immediate. The initial Consultant appointment came through within a few weeks and the options (and drawbacks) of corrective surgery were explained fully. After making the decision to proceed, the waiting time to the operation was 6 months.

The hospital stay overnight was generally good, although post operation I felt the nurses could have checked more often. The discharge process was slow.

Follow up appointments with the consultant have been regular and assuring.

Throughout the process, appointments have been on time with a minimum wait (max 10 mins).

Parking at the Hallamshire is perhaps the most annoying point about the hospital; on-street parking followed by a short walk is inevitable.
