"Podiatry - Irvine Unit"

About: Bexhill Hospital

The staff at the Irvine's Unit Podiatry Clinic always provides an excellent service - but not so today! The clinician removed hard skin from the heels, but unfortunately I now have a defined raised ridge on both heels between the old and new pink skin, which I suspect will become sore.

I asked for (but didn't really get) advice on heel pain. The clinician also made it very clear that toenail cutting was something only I, or a chiropodist should do. I can't always do this - I have various longterm health issues, hence the Podiatry appts! Overall, compared to their normal high standards, today was poor! I have given a four star recommendation for this hospital BUT ONLY because I know the service is normally very good. If I were to base it purely on todays visit it would have been a two!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your recent visit to the Podiatry Clinic at Bexhill Hospital; we very much appreciate it. The Trust works hard to provide a high standard of care to all patients and whilst we are pleased to read from your feedback this is your usual experience, it is disappointing to learn your most visit fell short on this occasion. Please accept our apologies for the concern and upset caused to you.

It is also of concern to us to read that the skin removal from your heel may not have been as complete as you had expected , and you are understandably worried that this may become sore in time. In the first instance, we would encourage you to contact the Podiatry Clinic and ask if someone could take a look at your heel. However, if you have not been able to do this or would prefer an independent person speak to the Operational Lead for Podiatry on your behalf, then please get in touch with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) by email at esh-tr.palsh@nhs.net or you can call them on 01424 758090, where staff will be very happy to help you.

In the meantime, we will ensure your feedback is shared with appropriate clinical staff and managers so that they can be aware of your recent experience, particularly given it fell sort of the usual high standards you have benefitted from. Thank you again for leaving us your comments as they help us to think about the service we provide to our patients. We hope your heel can be examined and corrective care taken as necessary as soon as it is viable to, and wish you all the very best in your health.
