"Rude dentist"

About: Alder Hey Hospital

I attended maxillofacial clinic last week with my 14 year old son who had been hit in the face with a bat at school, we had waited a while to be seen and when we got in the room the dentist was really rude! My son has been in severe pain since getting hit and has struggled to brush his teeth as when he touches his gums they bleed. The dentist in question was really rude to my son and instead of having a tad of sympathy for my young son she just criticised him for not cleaning his teeth or gums. I thought this was really inappropriate as my son is really self conscious about his teeth now and left the room really upset! Then the assistant was explaining to my son how to brush his teeth properly and my son looked at me, the assistant abruptly and in a tone i didn't appreciate said to my son are you listening! My son didn't want to attend the hospital and has been suffering anxiety, i think the staff need to get some manners and learn how to speak to children and have a bit of compassion and patience. This was not a nice experience for either of us.

Thank you for letting us know about your recent visit. I am very sorry that staff made your son feel upset and anxious. I would really like to discuss this further with you; if you would like to phone the PALS team on 0151 252 5374 or 0151 252 5161 they can get in touch with me.

Regards

Anne
