On the way to pick up my fiancé my toddler took an unresponsive episode in the car while I was driving. A minute before this he was singing quite the thing. He went floppy and unresponsive for a few minutes, once I stopped in a safe place he came round and was disorientated and confused. Within 5 minutes or so he was back to himself. I drove up to children’s A &E. When I arrived I was panicking and the receptionist was very good. I didn’t get her name but she was very understanding. We had to wait as it was very busy and then we got seen by the nurse Nikki who was very patient with my son as he seemed back to his lively self. Nikki was lovely and took her time when obtaining his observations. All his observations came back fine. We then had to wait for the doctor to see him due to what happened.
The doctor was lovely I think her name was catriona. Yet again took her time with us and let my son play with the toys at A& E while we spoke. She again listened to what happened and checked him. After the doctor checked him they decided they wanted an ECG done in case it was a cardiac issue. Nikki came back to us to do the ECG. Patience of a saint that one. . After she set it all up he had ripped all the cords and stickers off so poor Nikki had to start again. We eventually got the ECG done (2nd time lucky) and not the easiest thing as he was getting very upset but Nikki was just so lovely throughout. As it was late my son was tired and needing his bed so he was getting more upset. Nikki was lovely and a great nurse. During the whole situation she made it a lot easier on all of us. As an adult staff nurse I found it very hard being on the other side but having these lovely staff made it easier and even though he was very cranky and tired towards the end they were still very patient with him. Huge thank you to all the staff at children’s A &E
