I accidentally cut my finger deeply on the ring-pull lid of a can of pineapple. Initially I went to RSH minor injuries unit but they said the deep cut needed stitches and sent me to A&E at southampton general hospital. The care in A&E was first class, from two excellent nurses who washed then anaesthetized my finger and gave me 3 stitches to close the wound, working after midnight. I felt no pain at all while the stitches were being placed. The stitches were removed by my GP's nurse after one week. Wound remained free of infection and healed up well. Now ten weeks later the scar is barely visible. The hospital provided a standard finger bandage dressing, after a couple of days I started using film+pad dressings which I continued for around the next three weeks, those worked very well. After stopping all dressings gently applied vaseline daily as recommended by my GP's nurse which helped improve and reduce the scar. Brillant nurses in A&E (and also at my GP), great treatment and good outcome. I would highly recommend this A&E department if you have a bad cut that needs treating.
"Great treatment for cut finger from A&E nurses"
