I was extremely reluctant to bother A & E over the New Year's extremely busy period but having tried all other avenues I had no choice but to do so as I was travelling through Wiltshire to visit a patient myself and was unable to continue my journey.
I was referred initially to a wonderful nurse practitioner who apart from being extremely efficient, administering instant pain relief, all the time gave me the impression that I was her only patient and assuring me that I was not a nuisance and that A & E was the only route to deal with the immediate problem.
She was able to complete the initial examination herself after which I was seen by the specialist consultant on duty.
She herself was also welcoming, extremely reassuring and efficient and after further examination managed to successfully remove two pieces of loose particles of road grit which had blown into my eye while travelling to Wiltshire causing abrasions and excruciating pain. It was a huge relief as I only have good sight in one eye and the time element to prevent further damage was crucial.
While I was waiting, I watched members of staff in the department treating patients with courtesy, patience and expertise and I would like them all to know how grateful I am for their professionalism and resilience in these very difficult times.
Thank you most sincerely to everyone involved, you are a credit to the hospital, the NHS and everything it stands for.
"Brilliant service"
