Having gone through a particularly difficult time in my personal life, I got to a point where I was inches away from a full mental breakdown.
Working in healthcare, I was aware of the services available and self referred to my GP who directed me towards the in-house Mental Health Specialist Nurse Allison at Burnbrae Medical Centre in Shotts. Allison was amazing and sat through my tears, boogers and stories of woe, always offering me an ear, advice and finding the right source of treatment to start on. Since seeing Allsion I have a new lease of life and I am back to my old self again, if not better.
I feel people are all to quick to slate our NHS sometimes, but as a GP patient needing Mental Health input, I can not praise enough both the internal and external help I received from both sides .
I felt compelled to share a small bit of my story, as I feel Mental health, depression, anxiety etc are all taboo subjects in our society, but I gritted my teeth, called the GP and I am so glad I did and I will be forever grateful for the help I received.
"The old taboo subject of Mental Health"
