The nurse who took out my stitches during extended hours was extremely rude and lacked any semblance of bed side manner. I left on the brink of tears, and would go out of my way to tell people to AVOID going to this practice.
I entered the treatment room was not greeted, looked at or given any direction. The nurse seemed angry, and began our interaction by asking why I wasn’t at A&E in an accusing manner. The nurse then started reading the wrong information about my wound, and when I corrected them, the nurse didn’t even ask any clarifying information such as my name!
After trying to explain my current situation, for instance; my wound has been painful, I have four stitches, I had minor surgery 12 days ago, I am nervous to have the stitches out etc I sat on an uncovered vinyl hospital bed, and took off my bandage to show them. The nurse didn’t wait a moment before she roughly started cleaning the wound, not answering any of my questions. The nurse lacked care when removing the stitches. When I was clearly in pain, the nurse didn’t so much as look at me or ask how I was doing. The nurse laid the stitches directly on the uncovered vinyl when she was finished. The nurse then roughly cleaned the wound again, even though it was clearly sore and open. The nurse slapped tape on it, and scolded me when my hand was near the wound. The nurse didn’t give me any direction as to what to do with the tape, and what to expect with the healing process. The nurse didn’t even turn around to tell me she was finished and that I could leave.
It was the worst experience I have had with NHS.
I understand that our doctors and nurses are overworked and tired, but this experience was deeper than that. This nurse needs a course on bed side manner and seriously improve basic human interaction.
