"Brierley Ward 2 - Wonderful Care"

About: Northern General Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I first went into A&E and there was no waiting at all and the staff were wonderful.

After visiting x-ray I was shown the x-ray photos by a staff member - which had never happened before. She explained very clearly to myself and my daughter that I had pneumonia. The treatment and drugs that I would be on was explained clearly as well.

I was in hospital for 8 days, due to the drugs I was taking I don't remember 5 days of my stay. I was told by my family that I had been hallucinating and saying strange things. The ward sister had to call my daughter to help pacify me, as staff were worried I may harm myself. The staff were just wonderful and someone stayed by my side at all times when my daughter and sister weren't there.

After my stay I was so shocked to find out the things I had been saying during my hallucinations that I went back to the staff and apologised for my behavior, and to say thank you for looking after me. The nurses were very reassuring and kind and said not to worry and that they understood it was due to the medicines I was on.

The only thing I would say is that the parking is not very good.

I have a further appointment with the consultant next month.

Thank you
