I had a funny turn while I was an outpatient at The Cardiopulmonary Unit, and I was admitted on to a ward for a few days. There I was diagnosed as a diabetic, but at this stage they wasn't sure what type I was, as I was only 25 they couldn’t rule out Type 1.
I was introduced to the diabetic nurses, who were very supportive. After only being home for 3 days after being discharged, I was awfully depressed. One of the nurses gave me half hour of her time to give me support, and someone to talk to, as being diagnosed with diabetes was a big shock to my system.
They nurses rang me regularly and the head Consultant Dr Piero Baglioni is brilliant. I couldn't have asked for any better care than what he gave me. He explained things in simple terms that I could understand and had various tests done to rule out other things. When he diagnosed me as a Type 2 diabetic I was so relieved, as I was worried about being a type 1.
Being a diabetic is scary but thanks to the diabetes murses and Dr Baglioni at Prince Charles Hospital they made me feel I wasn't alone and that support is available should I ever need it.
"Thanks for the great diabetes care and Prince Charles"
