I was treated very well by the staff in AMU at the Northern General - despite the complex situation with COVID-19 (not my reason for admission). The staff worked in an organised and safe fashion, despite all the new protocols, PPE etc. They still kept a really light-hearted atmosphere on the ward which made it a less scary place to be. I felt well cared for and not like I was a problem. Thank you for your hard work Nursing and Support staff.
However I do have one concern over the consultant that saw me who spent about 5 minutes with me and didn't appear to be listening. This became very apparent when I received my discharge summary which stated that I had been admitted because of an unintentional overdose as I had heard that medication would help with COVID-19 and that is why I was taking more. This was not the case as it was a carefully planned and serious suicide attempt. I think this is very concerning that such a (seemingly random - as I definitely didn't have that conversation) diagnosis was made which was so wrong to the situation and probably affected my ongoing care. Luckily when I spoke to the ward afterwards none of the other staff were under this impression but agreed to change the discharge summary accordingly.
