"The waiting area and times"

About: King Edward VII Hospital / General medicine

(as a service user),

The phlebotomy 'service' at King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor is appalling and a disgrace. I sat outside - on the grass, in glaring sunlight and then when the sun went in a breeze blew around the courtyard and it became chilly - for one and a half hours . Then my number was called - well 5 numbers at a time were called - so I was asked to sit inside. Thinking that at last I would be seen, I was shocked to see at least 10 people sitting in the waiting area (a closed air conditioned area - great for infection control).

After quarter of an hour a number was called.  My number was still 12 places away. Based on the previous rate hour and three quarter's rate of movement, this meant I would have had to wait at least another hour. I could not as someone at home needs care. They also have been referred for blood tests. How can an ill person wait for hours (sometimes without seating). It really is appalling.

Covid-19 is not to blame - it was like this before.

Dear Rivka

I am so sorry that this is an issue, it is not acceptable in or out of COVID 19 times. I have passed your comments onto the General Manager and COO for the service and awaiting a reply. Please could you email me at fhft.patientexperience@nhs.net so I can give you an update.

regards
