"Doc called too early, now I've missed an…"

About: Bowling Green Street Surgery

I'm furious. I was scheduled for a telephone appointment for after 9am today (no time slot, just any time after 9am). My phone rang at 8:47 and I couldn’t get to the phone on time. I called back at 9:02am to be told the doctor was busy all day and I may need to book another appointment as the doctor may not be able to contact me. I'm waiting for that call now, unaware if I'll receive that call or whether I need to re-book an appointment.

Appointments and time keeping work both ways. My appointment was for after 9am. I understand that it's a busy surgery, but "after 9am" was the time I was given not “8:30” or “8:45” or “9ish”. It was “after 9am” and I was ready. I called them back at 9:02am.

Now I may need to wait days to speak with a doctor again, or worse... spend a day waiting at an out of town NHS Walk in centre to be seen when this could have been avoided by contacting me within the appointment time.

This isn't the first time it's been near impossible to get a doctor appointment from Bowling Green Street Surgery. Anybody wishing to sign up with this practice should be aware it is extremely difficult to get appointments at Bowling Green Street Surgery. If I am spoken with today, I'll update this review accordingly.

We are sorry to hear of your concerns in respect of the telephone appointment today. Due to the nature of the work we cannot guarantee times of calls and sometimes that does mean they may call slightly earlier. We understand that you did receive a further call and that as a result a referral was made on your behalf.

In respect of the appointment availability we would like to assure you that despite how you feel we do offer appointment availability that means the gold standard framework. Sadly the demand for the appointments are so high that many practices cannot meet the patient demand. Since we moved to telephone triage during the pandemic more patients have been assessed on the day than ever before. We will be retaining this model to ensure greater accessibility to appointments.
