"A massive thank you for fixing me up so I was able to come home"

About: Ayrshire Hospice

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I had endured three days of horrendous pain. Nothing I did or pain meds could reduce it to a level I could stand. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had experience with the hospice for the past three years so when I got offered to be admitted for help with the pain it was really a no brainer.

From the housekeepers, kitchen staff, care assistants, student nurses, staff and charge nurses to the doctors, I hope I’ve not missed anyone, they were incredible. The time around the main Doctor was Dr Esther also Dr Laura, Dr Lucy, Dr McKay and initially on the phone prior to admittance Dr Killin. All of them were very calming and quickly confirmed I had a UTI possible from 2 stents coming from my kidneys- they cause me a lot of pain and issues.

I want to stress there is nothing to be afraid of going into the hospice it is not a scary in any way and the staff are ALL friendly and kind. They will do anything and everything to make you feel better and help you. From medical aspects and emotional support, the hospice ticks every box and I am so grateful to them for everything they do.

Sadly, day services are stopped because of this awful COVID19, its missed greatly. I’ve gone off track slightly but I guess I’m so grateful to the hospice and all the staff that make it the wonderful place it is. I am relieved. I still get a weekly phone call from the day services staff which is such a life line. To conclude I want to say a massive thank you for fixing me up so I was able to come home, but I feel safe that the hospice and its amazing staff will hopefully be there for my next admission. The hospice fills a gap with specialist care and excellent staff teams. Thank you for reading this
