I was depressed and anxious which affected my daily life. I had no motivation to do anything yet I wanted things to change even though I wasn’t particularly doing anything to change it. I was unable to express my feelings nor did I think I was capable of feeling anything since I felt empty inside.
Someone close to me suggested I refer myself to therapy but I was hesitant because it’s frowned upon in my ‘culture’. Anyway, because of my anxiety, I missed my first appointment and didn’t feel comfortable talking to a stranger. I felt bad about myself to I rebooked it so in order for me to improve myself.
My therapist, Rashmeet, called me and introduced herself and I felt comfortable starting therapy with her. We spent the first few sessions discussing how I was feeling and how these problems came to be. The following sessions were about methods of self improvement and with each session, I practised what I was taught in my daily life from challenging negative thoughts to speaking publicly without stuttering as it was affecting my work and home life in a negative manner before.
I gradually started to use the strategies that I was taught more and more so now I’m able to use them whenever I feel down or having negative thoughts. In the end, going through therapy with Rashmeet was the smartest thing I’ve ever done.
