My daughter accidentally burnt her hand doing a crafting activity (Hama beads) yesterday evening. It didn’t look bad and she said it wasn’t hurting so we waited until this morning and my partner took her to the pharmacist.
Pharmacist said it needed to be seen by GP.
Phoned GP, sent them pictures. Advised to wait for phone call back.
Phoned back 6 hours later to advise we needed to attend minor injuries.
I leave work, having been on the wards all day at Monklands, collect my daughter and return to minor injuries at UHM.
Wait 2 and a bit hours to get it dressed only to be made to feel judged and that my daughter’s accident/delay in treatment was actually my negligence/fault. Like I don’t already feel like a bad parent for being at work so much.
She’s not had an A and E attendance in her life. She accidentally knocked into the iron doing a crafting activity. She didn’t get calpol because she said it didn’t hurt that bad.
Judging people for the reason they are seeking medical attention makes them less like to seek medical attention in the future. As a fellow colleague, please do better.
