I was admitted to the Day Bed Suite at the Western for a urology procedure today, from the minute I arrived the staff were absolutely lovely and so welcoming. I firstly met the nurse who checked me in she was very kind and making sure I wasn’t in any pain or anything as I do have endometriosis. The anaesthetist came to see me his name was Antony and he was brilliant. I felt like I was put at ease straight away and suddenly I didn’t feel nervous anymore because he was well aware of my condition and how pain can be complex and I knew I’d be well looked after in theatre. He made sure I was involved in the plan of how to make the general anaesthetic as easy as possible and he had asked what painkillers help me and told me he’d make sure post procedure that I was comfortable and I felt he really listened to what I was saying.
The theatre staff were great they were chatting away as the anaesthetist was inserting a cannula into my hand and they really helped take my mind off things. When I woke up the anaesthetist was right I woke up comfortable and pain free and it was a feeling I will hold onto because I live in constant pain daily due to endometriosis.
On arrival back to day bed suite the nurses were great they were doing regular checks and made sure I had something to eat and drink. I felt like I could approach them if there was anything I needed and they did everything possible to help and always checked if I needed any painkillers. I felt really supported by all the staff during my day case procedure. I had been really worried about it all but when I got there and spoke to the staff those worries went away. I can’t remember one of the staff nurses names who looked after me but I know one of the nurses was called Jenna and the other was Roseanne. It would be good if possible if they could thank Jenna and Roseanne but also the other nurse that also looked after me today I just can’t remember her name. I’m so grateful for all the support and compassion that was shown to me today. It’s staff like that who go above and beyond and it means a lot especially at the moment as it’s been such a difficult time with my endometriosis.
"Great care"
