"Shoulder decompression"

About: Dorset County Hospital

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Ridgeway Ward, Dorset County Hospital, at 7.30 am on Mon 14th April. Very friendly greeting, a smooth inductiion, preparation for a nerve block for the operation. Seen by more than one doctor, pleasant attitude to me. respecting my request for information at all times. Although I was due to be a day case I had to stay longer as I developed a minor breathing problem. My relatives were kept informed, with a minor grouse from my daughter saying that as I had been sent for a chest X-ray, she was not happy with being told, everything was going well. It was being done to ensure that my breathing problem was not caused by anything more sinister.

On my discharge, a care package was put in place to support me, as I live alone, I receive help getting up and going to bed, The nurse visits me re- dressings etc, and physio will be provided at home, saving me travel and expense. A good experience, and much better than 2 years ago, (different hospital) when I was discharged with no effort to ensure I could cope alone.
