"Understaffed on Rufford ward"

About: Park Hospital

(as the patient),

At busy times on Rufford ward at the Park hospital, it was apparent that the nursing staff were under pressure owing perhaps to staff shortages. Having said that, I do not believe that the nursing staff allowed the pressure to compromise or reflect on the good quality of care they offered. For example, one patient sustained a fall and was unable to get up unaided. When a nurse found that she couldn't lift the patient on her own, she could only sit and sympathise with the patient as no other staff were around to help her.

Whilst I appreciate that staffing levels impact on financial considerations in the present climate, I am concerned that dedicated, professional and committed people may resolve to leave the profession as a result of, at times, untenable pressure.
