I felt belittled, staff rude and not knowledgeable.
I had waited from late 2018 to February 2021 for a repeat field test requested by my consultant. I had been to a review clinic in the summer of 2019 where all other tests were done but there was no slot available on the day for the field test. I was told to expect 2-3 months wait. Obviously last year 2020 the Covid intervened. I did have several letters informing me I had not been forgotten!
Finally an appointment but not what I expected when I got there. A new set up for Glaucoma review clinic. The staff seemed to be unqualified with just enough training to operate the equipment but not enough knowledge to deal with we 'odd folk'. Since I queried a test I felt that I was now thought to be a nuisance. The staff member was rude, stood in front of me and asked if I could see them! It is not a good thing to answer back since staff hold the power and I feel that any backchat could be taken as aggression and one could be penalised for this. It's patients story versus staff and I am afraid staff will always win. There are notices everywhere to state staff should be treated with respect, but what about we patients?
