"They went above and beyond to help"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I was admitted to ward 210 at the Royal Infirmary for my surgery on Tuesday. From the minute I arrived on the ward everyone was so helpful. It made me feel at ease and the nerves from surgery were gone. The recovery staff were great they gave reassurance and they made sure when I woke I was comfortable and gave me painkillers through the cannula in my hand. I was taken back to the ward and I was looked after well by the nursing staff. They kept checking in with me to see if I needed anything and made sure I was comfortable and not in any pain.

The student nurses were lovely too they had told me just to ask if there was anything I needed. I felt staff were also able to give me reassurance which helped as I had started bleeding post op and was a bit worried about it but the nurses kept an eye on things. I found that every time I had to buzz for painkillers they were given to me quickly and the nurses would check in half an hour later to see if it had helped with the pain or if I needed something a bit stronger.

The other thing I thought that was good was I was looked after by a lovely nurse called Lisa and she was brilliant. She was so understanding and when I asked for painkillers she had asked me what I thought would work best and it was good to be given that choice. The staff made this admission for surgery a lot easier and I’m so grateful. They went above and beyond to help and it really is appreciated. The staff in ward 210 are brilliant. I was told on discharge that if there was any issues just to contact the ward and was told they are there if I needed them.
