"My care was exemplary"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Yesterday I cut my finger on the lid of a can it bled profusely but eventually stopped after about 40 minutes. However this morning the finger was very swollen and I couldn’t bend it.  I wasn’t sure if it should be checked out so phoned NHS 111 as it was a Saturday and my GP practice was closed. The call handler Amy was very efficient and reassuring. I was told after Amy spoke with a nurse that it should be looked at and nurse Laura phoned  from the Victoria hospital. Again Nurse Laura was friendly and arranged for me to come along to A&E. I was seen by Nurse James in A&E who reassured me that I wasn’t wasting their time, he sent me for an X-ray. He then cleaned the wound and applied some paper stitches and a dressing. He spoke with a Dr who also came along and spoke to me. I was given antibiotics and because  I had said I wasn’t keen on taking them if they weren’t really necessary I was told in what circumstances I needed to start taking them. I was also given extra dressings and told to come back to the hospital if the wound became red swollen and started to track.

My care from start to finish was exemplary and I would like to thank everyone for their friendly reassuring and kind help. If this was my care for a minor injury then I would  certainly never have any worries  about having to attend A&E in the Victoria hospital for anything major. Many thanks to all concerned.

Dear Granny

Thanks for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. I'm sorry to learn of your finger injury which sounds painful. I hope the wound heals well and you return to full health soon. A hand injury can really impact on you, so it's great to hear you received the required treatment.

The staff at the Victoria Hospital sound fantastic. They appear to have been very thorough and clearly put you at ease. I'm sure they will be delighted with your feedback.

I will share your story within NHS 24 as it's always great for our staff to hear what happens following a call to our service. As we don't have the pleasure of seeing our patients face to face, feedback such as yours is great to share. If you care to contact me with some further detail that would be good. You can contact me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk or by phone on 07814 299944. This would mean I could ensure our Call Handler, Amy, and the NHS 24 Nurse involved were aware of your kind words. I hope to hear further from you.

Thanks again and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Take care meantime.

Shona
