Absolutely shocked at how the NHS only provides care for physical wounds and not the patient's mental well being.
Having major surgery is traumatic in itself, but the lack of interest in how I was coping with the event was distressing. No reassurance, no understanding, no explanation. Just left in the waiting room until a bed was available, told to get changed into operation gown and then left on the bed until it was time to go down.
Once back up, the only question about how I was doing that I was asked was, how is the pain? Ignored pretty much until discharge, then discharged and ignored again until 6 week check.
I felt like a number on a production line.
