I rang up the surgery on a Friday to get an appointment with my usual GP who I see for ongoing mental health problems. They were not in that day but the receptionist said there were other doctors available. I said that I preferred to see the usual GP as he knew what was going on etc. and that I could phone back on Monday. She asked me if I was sure I would be OK until Monday, and if anything changed or I needed to speak to someone earlier, to ring back and they'd find a way to squeeze me in.
I didn't need to take her up on this offer as it was not urgent, but I really appreciated that it was offered, that her attitude to mental health was caring, validating and compassionate and that really meant a lot as this is often not the case at a lot of GP surgeries. Keep it up! The little things can go a long way for those of us living with mental health problems!
"Excellent receptionist attitude towards mental health"
