"Hospital at Home"

About: Midlothian Community Hospital / Hospital @ Home (Midlothian)

(as a carer),

The Hospital at Home Team is a service for acutely ill medical patients, providing care in the patient's own home as an alternative to hospital admission.

I am the main carer for my elderly mother and we have had to use the services of Hospital at Home on several occasions in the past year.
The care shown by all the visiting staff is truly first class. They have looked after mum with care and compassion, they have listened to what we had to say about mum's care and her ongoing health issues and the team kept us informed at all times as to what they thought were appropriate  interventions.

As well as dealing with mum's immediate health issues the Hospital at Home Team also took the time to consider and review mum's ongoing care. Again they listened to her family, discussed historical health issues and put in place actions for mum's future care.

Although we are always anxious when mum is unwell we were always reassured when Hospital at Home are involved in her care.

Thank you Hospital at Home Team!

In my opinion Hospital at Home is a service that should be made more widely available across the NHS. Skilled professionals working in a small, dynamic team can only enhance the care system. The service allows patients the opportunity to be in their own home, hopefully with their loved ones, reducing some of the stress and anxiety while being acutely ill.

Thank you very much indeed for such a comprehensive and kind review of our service! The team are truly touched by your lovely feedback - I was delighted to read out your "story" this evening and will make sure that those who aren't on duty today are able to see it too.

We feel very privileged to care for people in their own homes, where we can get the chance to know them and their families. This year, more than ever, it has been a pleasure to look after people at home, when life in hospital has been more complicated than usual.

The team are very appreciative that you have taken the time to write about some of the details of why and how you found the service helpful. This allows us to build on what works well and to feed back to the team on what sorts of things our patients and their families find helpful. It's also helpful for us to get reviews on the care we provide, so we can share the stories with others in NHS Lothian and the Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership. This way, they can hear first hand about the sorts of services that people find helpful.

We know that looking after a relative can be very time consuming, so are most grateful that you wrote such a fulsome note of thanks. We have the utmost respect for the families like yourselves, who are doing an amazing job of caring for their loved ones.

Please accept our thanks from all the team and our best wishes to you, your mother and all the family for a good summer and the days beyond.
