By early June 2021 I lost a substantial amount of weight then I found a lump within my left armpit. Given these circumstances I attended at my GP Practice. At this juncture I was extremely concerned and I was subsequently examined in early June 2021 by Advance Nurse Practitoner Derek. Upon my examination Derek allayed my fears and arranged for another blood test which was carried out that day. He then prescribed additional medicine, arranged for an urgent X-ray and urgent referral to the Haematology department which in turn I had a CT scan at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
In the weeks that ensued Derek contacted myself and was asking about my overall condition and effectiveness of my new medication.
Derek subsequently contacted myself several times where he would keep me apprised of any information and results he had received.
Again I have been in for an appointment with Derek where I’ve been referred to FVRH.
I cannot emphasis how much this contact I had with Derek provided me with a positive attitude such is his caring mannerisms and exceptional knowledge. Given that Derek took the time out from his busy schedule to contact myself to see how I was doing. This alone shows Derek’s professional ability and management of his limited time to see how I was getting on.
I know the health service is currently receiving plaudits for their service during the current pandemic and so they should but I feel that additional praise and recognition should go to Derek. He was welcoming, knowledgeable, caring and his use of empathy was to be commended. I wish and hope that more public servants are of the same ilk as Derek.
"Exceptional treatment & support"
