"Hysteroscopy and Myosure procedure"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Hi, I had been having some blood on toilet paper when wiping after urination, I am 56 and period stopped at 40 (menopause) so was a little worried, went to G.P and was referred to a local hospital for a hysteroscopy, having had a colonoscopy quite a number of years prior I knew a hysteroscopy could also be painful.

I wasn't sure what to expect, received no pain relief nor was it ever mentioned, There was a female who did the hysteroscopy and 1 nurse who seemed slightly uncomfortable and she was trying to chat to me.

Never in my entire life have i felt pain like this, I know my knuckles were white from the pain and I was crying, sweating and felt completely violated, it was like a searing, stabbing pain,  I would rather go through labour pains any day than ever have this done again without G.A., I am utterly disgusted,  so angry that this is actually happening to women every day and it's took me a year for this not to be in my head every day, however I will never forget it and please don't judge me when I say that even if I knew I had a cancer in this area I would never again agree to having a hysteroscopy without a G.A. again, I  can't find the words to express how painful, barbaric and violating i felt this procedure was.

Dear Mo64

Firstly, many thanks for taking the time to share your experience of attending University Hospital Monklands when you underwent a hysteroscopy. I can appreciate how difficult it must have been for you to compile and share your story, given the upset and trauma this procedure has caused you and am grateful you have done so. Please accept my sincere apologies for the pain, discomfort and violation you felt during and after your procedure. This is certainly not the experience we would wish for our patients and would very much like to learn from and improve from your experience. If you feel able to, would you be so kind as to contact the Patient Affairs Team at University Hospital Monklands to give them the opportunity to review your care and treatment, which in turn will allow staff in the gynaecology department to review the processes in place for this type of procedure.

Please email PatientAffairs.Monklands@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or telephone them on 01236 713065 providing your personal details and the dates you underwent the procedure. Please also quote care opinion874754 in any communication.

Kind regards.

Lesley
