"My hearing loss"

About: General practices in Tayside Ninewells Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as a service user),

I suddenly experienced unilateral hearing loss one morning. I attended a private clinic to check that there was no wax and they did a number of tests and the recommended that I needed to see my GP urgently for high dose steroids. I contacted Loch Leven Health Centre who asked me to send the results of the tests through. This I did. In the meantime, Dr Frew looked up the NICE Guidelines then phoned the ENT Department at Ninewells Hospital who agreed that steroids were required and recommended dose and duration. They want a follow-up appointment in two weeks so Dr Frew then emailed a referral as well as sending one by post.

Thanks to the Auchterarder Hearing Clinic and Dr Frew's rapid intervention during a busy afternoon at the surgery, my hearing has already improved after two doses and I hope further damage has been prevented.

People in the NHS so rarely get praise but Dr Frew and her team deserve it for their rapid and excellent response. Thank you
