"Compassionate care by doctors"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit

(as a relative),

My father was recently admitted to the Acute Assessment Unit in Forth Valley Royal Hospital acutely unwell. On the evening of his admission the consultant on call was the geriatrician Dr Copeland. It was clear that the AAU was very busy but, despite that, Dr Copeland took considerable time to talk to us as relatives, addressing our queries in a clear manner, whilst also being empathetic. The following day we experienced similar good care from Dr Henderson, also a geriatrician.

Furthermore, some time later we passed Dr Copeland in the hospital corridor and, although above the call of duty (since she was no longer directly responsible for my father as he had been moved to another ward where he has also had superb consultant care), she took the time to stop and talk to my mother and myself and ask how things were going.  When a loved one is unwell, such superb communication and compassion can make a huge difference not only to the patient but also to their families.
FVRH is very fortunate to have wonderful staff like this working for them, and the junior staff are lucky to have such good senior mentors.

Dear Daughter2021

I sincerely hope your father is feeling better. Thank you for taking time to give us this lovely feedback, it is always good to hear from a family perspective their experience whilst family members are in hospital. I will ensure this feedback is shared with the team in AAU and also Dr Copeland and Dr. Henderson.

Take Care

Dear Daughter2021,

Thank you so much for sharing such lovely feedback. Both Sarah (Dr Henderson) and I were really touched that you took the time to do this. We've asked that it's shared with our nurses too, they are the absolute backbone of our team and we couldn't do what we do without them.

Glad things are getting better with your Father and thanks again.

Best wishes,

Claire
