I was 3 days post C-section with my first baby and had been discharged from the Ulster hospital the day before. A community midwife from Lagan Valley had visited me that morning to do a visit and things were going well. She gave us a number for the MLU and said we could contact for advice at any time.
That afternoon and evening we started to have some difficulties with breast feeding and getting my daughter to take milk from the breast. I was getting quite worried and phoned the unit and spoke to a midwife called Claire. She listened to my concerns, gave me some advice to try and told me that she was on shift overnight and that I could call back at any time or call in person to the unit if I needed more support. It was such a relief to know we weren’t alone and that we had options during the night if we needed them.
The advice worked and we had a good night, but that was due to the fact that my anxiety had been reduced because I knew help was on hand if we needed it! The MLU in Lagan Valley is a fantastic resource and we have only had positive experiences with the staff we have encountered throughout our pregnancy. Thank you to them all and Claire especially for the support last night.
